9/11: Toxic Legacy

Though 3,000 people were killed on 9/11, many are still dying from the effects the environment in and around the area of the World Trade Center has had on their lungs. The people who are truly most important to us as a nation, the men and women who sacrifice EVERYTHING to save us, are dying because the Bush Administration and the EPA said that it was safe to go back to work. Our fighter fighters and police officers who responded first and those men and women who were active in the clean-up (about 25,000 people) have lung problems beyond belief, some of them with so much debris in their bodies that they are almost at 0% lung capacity, and their health benefits are going to run out in 2009. Please contact your local, state, and federal representatives and tell them that the REAL heroes of 9/11 need our continued help and support, and that President Bush and Vice President Cheney should be impeached for their role in the cover-up.

And the continued victims of 9/11 could use a little help as well:
3,322 US Soldiers have been killed in Iraq
24,764 US Soldiers have been wounded in Iraq

Many people I have seen who were there are ill and suffering!

Needless to say, Giuliani and the Bush Reich made a super human effort to separate emergency workers effected by this from benefits.

ok UWL im with you here i think. I'm for the folks that were that were there receiving the best treatment. I hope they don't buy into the snake oil of Global Warming as a cause though. Surely they are smarter than that.

JS,
who would sa tha the 9/11 workers are sick due to Global Warming? I think you're way out in right field here.

Tomcat,
Of course they did. Several possible reasons: admitting these people are sick means admitting that the administration lied and let people back into ground zero too soon; the towers were blown up instead of collapsed and the stuff in these people's lungs is partial proof of that; plus all of the other less credible but still interesting theories out there

Dr. Deb,
Are there any charities you know of?

You are right on in considering the difficulties suffered by many this time. I do get tired of you attributing to the Bush Administration all of the bureaucratic bull crap and CYA that is the source of the problem and that exists in all administrations (going back to Roosevelt, in my experience)

Three score,
To whom should I attribute it?

All the damn bureacracies. (I really hatem, from school bureacracies to city ones, to Social Security, to well -- you know. I wish there were some way to modify the bureacracy paradigm. (spend all your money, cover your ass at all times, blame everything on someone else, take credit for anything good that should happen no matter who is responsible, generate paper to prove that you exist. etc.
